RE: EPL Title Race

Dear Chairman,

In the end, it would be down to just two teams - and Chelsea is not in the picture.

Aston Villa, under the rejuvenating abilities of Martin O'neill, should get an UEFA Cup place. Newcastle, on the other hand, would continue to decline with no sense of direction being charted in the club's future.

But it would be Manchester United and Liverpool FC which should be gunning for the top spot in the EPL this season.

Chelsea, for all its star names and big name players in its ranks, has finally undone itself by unloading too many players at one go at the end of the previous season. It now has alarmingly little depth in certain of its departments and unless the squad bulks up in the January transfer window, it might suffer the fatigue of a congested fixture list come March.

So between Manchester United and Liverpool, whom should we be placing the smart money on? I would stick out my neck and place the Red Devils ahead of the Reds - for precisely the same reasons that those who favouring Liverpool would say. That the club has brought in a fair number of new exciting players in stark contrast to the Devils making seemingly one solitary signing in Carrick.

There is less disruption at Old Trafford while Benitez might be spolit for choice in coming up with an attacking line-up for every match while simultaneously dealing with an aging center backline.

I predict further cup success for the Reds this season, while Man U should edge slightly ahead of them in the league title race.
